Self Preservation: A Truer Path Than Therapy or Healing
Yoga Alliance does not allow us to use the terms “therapy” or “healing,” so I’ve embraced and teach the concept of Self Preservation.
Because maybe yoga isn’t just “therapy” or “healing.” I feel it does more. Yoga teaches us to preserve ourselves—our truest form of Self.
The words “therapy” or “healing” can sometimes imply that we are broken and in need of repair. But really, we are all just doing our best with what we have and what we’re given—navigating our daily struggles that, frankly, are just part of living. Every day, we practice living.
Sometimes Mother Nature is sad and she cries. Sometimes she feels bright and sunny. But she is always true to us.
And I love that we can’t label what we do as therapy or healing—because I would much rather say:
I am preserving my authentic Self through yoga poses and the philosophy of the Yoga Sutras.
I also weave in the sacred philosophies of Native American views of Mother Nature. As yoga teaches—
If you want to become a tree in Tree Pose, then you must understand the tree.
This is where my teaching takes you deeper. I will teach you about the trees and their roots. About the leaves and the air you breathe. About the moon, the sun, and the truth of Hatha Yoga—
“Ha” meaning Sun, “Tha” meaning Moon.
The energy of the Sun. The intuition of the Moon.
I will teach you about you, and what makes you so authentically YOU.
Don’t cheat us from seeing all you have to offer.
Because you, my friend, are a remarkable present to the world.
