The day and night stand in perfect balance, yet from here we begin our quiet descent into darkness. The Autumnal Equinox marks a turning point—one that calls us inward. It is a season for slowness, for the soul, for honoring the wisdom of hibernation before the deep winter rest.

In the five elements of Chinese medicine, we are moving from the Metal element, which helps us release and refine, into the Water element, which teaches depth, stillness, and trust in the unknown. This is the time to gently explore the threshold between life and death, endings and beginnings.

Through the lens of SPINE Academia:

  • Space (S): Allow moments of pause to sense the balance within.

  • Physical Body (P): Choose movements that feel nourishing and protective, not depleting.

  • Intention (I): Focus on clarity—what will you carry forward, and what will you lay to rest?

  • Nature & Nutrition (N): Eat seasonally—warming broths, roasted roots, and foods that nourish yin.

  • Emotions (E): Honor grief and release; let them be part of your seasonal shedding.

The Autumnal Equinox reminds us that balance is fleeting—yet this impermanence is what makes it sacred.
