Minor Snow 小雪 – Nov. 22nd to Dec. 5th

The arrival of Minor Snow (Xiǎo Xuě) signals winter’s quiet approach. Snow may be light, but its presence is a gentle reminder: prepare, slow down, and turn inward. The land grows cold and still, animals move with less urgency, water hardens to ice, and plants draw their strength into hidden roots.

In the five-element cycle, winter belongs to the Water element—the most yin of all phases. This energy is deep, quiet, receptive, and profoundly feminine. It asks us to trust stillness, to gather our resources, and to honor the wisdom of moving slowly.

Through SPINE Philosophy, Minor Snow guides us to:

  • Space (S): Protect sacred time for rest and reflection; embrace shorter days as an invitation to pause.

  • Physical Body (P): Practice movements that preserve warmth and strengthen the lower back and kidneys, guardians of water energy.

  • Intention (I): Settle into inner listening—what truth arises in silence?

  • Nature & Nutrition (N): Choose deeply nourishing foods: black beans, seaweed, sesame, walnuts, and warming teas to support kidney energy.

  • Emotions (E): Allow yourself to feel softness and receptivity; embrace yin’s wisdom without needing to “do.”

Minor Snow reminds us that winter’s medicine lies in stillness. By slowing down now, we align with nature’s rhythm and strengthen our roots for the seasons ahead.
