Major Snow 大雪 – Dec. 6th to Dec. 20th

With the arrival of Major Snow (Dà Xuě), winter deepens and snow may fall more heavily, blanketing the land in stillness. This is a season to conserve, restore, and protect our most precious resource: Jing.

In Chinese medicine, Jing is our essence—both physical and energetic. Physically, it is expressed in our reproductive seeds (sperm and ovum). Energetically, it is the deep life force stored in the Kidneys, the foundation of vitality and resilience. Jing is slowly spent over a lifetime, and it is drained most quickly through overwork, stress, and lack of rest.

Through the wisdom of SPINE Philosophy, Major Snow calls us to:

  • Space (S): Create boundaries that protect rest—say no more often, and prioritize quiet evenings.

  • Physical Body (P): Practice gentle, restorative movement that strengthens the lower back and nourishes kidney energy.

  • Intention (I): Set intentions around sustainability—choose practices that build rather than deplete your reserves.

  • Nature & Nutrition (N): Eat deeply nourishing foods like bone broth, black sesame, walnuts, and warming spices that support Jing and kidney health.

  • Emotions (E): Allow softness and gentleness to guide you; emotional rest is just as vital as physical.

Major Snow teaches us that true strength comes not from constant striving, but from protecting and replenishing our deepest reserves. By honoring rest and sleep, we guard our essence and prepare for life’s renewal in the seasons to come.
